AjaxMoby has been keeping up with Facebook a lot more lately. I think it is addictive, TBH. But one thing I have learned from checking in so often is that there are a few more of these Original Series Star Trek fan films being proposed or produced. And for whatever reason, it seems like a lot of them are fundraising about this same time.

Right now there are Indiegogo.com and/or Kickstarter.com campaigns underway for Starship Farragut, Star Trek Continues, and New Voyages/Phase II. And those are just the ‘Big Boys’. There are a few smaller productions vying for your support as well.

So far the darling of the bunch seems to be the ‘Original Crew’ series Star Trek ContinuesStar Trek Continues has raised almost $50K so far, but is running an all or nothing Kickstarter. If they do not meet their $100K goal, then they get nothing, unlike the less ambitious Indiegogo campaigns with their flexible funding; meaning they get all the money pledge without regard to meeting the goal set forth.

Update!: With 9 days to go, Continues has passed the 100K mark! So, it looks like they will have enough cash to make at least three more episodes. Let’s hope it doesn’t take four years, eh?

It might have helped that The Pirate Bay (yes, THAT The Pirate Bay) had a link to the ‘Kirkstarter’ on its front page for the last several days.

I have to believe that helped, just a bit.

Star Trek Continues is produced at the Farragut Films studio using the same sets as Starship Farragut, and features new actors portraying the original Enterprise crew of Kirk, Spock, McCoy and so on. Their first episode was really impressive, you can read the review and watch via YouTube right [HERE] on Moby’s.

If you’ve read this far and are a bit surprised by all the Star Trek and Starship Fan Films mentioned, you might also check out Star Trek: RenegadesStarship ValiantStarship AjaxStar Trek: Axanar…and the list goes on.

So which one is Moby’s favorite? Well, I like them all, of course. Smile

Seriously, I do like to see the success Continues is having, and Moby is not sure what is up with Phase II to be honest. Moby was kinda sorta going to go in whole hog with Ajax, but things there , at the very least, seem to be going along at a snails pace. In fact that slow pace is what seems to have prompted the creation of Starship Valiant, a separate Fan Film to be made by some of the same fans, using the same sets in Oklahoma City.

The Starbase Studios set in Oklahoma City features a full 360 degree bridge.

To be fair, Ajax Producers John Hughes and JC England (both great guys) have made it clear via a torrent of updates on Facebook that things are moving along and the project is alive and well. Perhaps Ajax has had more than a few bumps in the road; but at minimum, it has had to deal with those bumps and some delays are understandable.

But my favorite? I have to say that the fan film that most captures the original feel of the original series so far, and this is by no means any disrespect to any of the others, has to go to Starship Exeter’s second, and as of yet uncompleted episode, The Tressaurian Intersection. The music, the visuals, the colors, etc. just nailed the ‘feel’ of the original.

Here’s the opening teaser, Via YouTube:

Tastes and opinions differ, but these others are also amongst the best out there…so far:

Star Trek Continues -“Pilgrim of Eternity”

Starship Farragut – “The Price of Anything”

Star Trek New Voyages –  “World Enough and Time”
