Click for Larger VersionOne of the titles at Silverwolf which Tim Vigil worked on was Nightmaster, a book about an American ninja in California.

The issue has an amazing cover by Vigil, with only 21 B&W interior pages.

The first half of the book deals with Nightmaster hunting down the location of the ‘Red Dragons’ gang and dealing with a street thug who has just killed a shop owner. The second half of the book deals with Nightmaster’s origin and his confronting the ‘Red Dragons’. The opening half of the book is a real treat, but in all honesty the second half of the issue the art is noticeably weaker. McVigilSiggyLast summer I was fortunate to meet and interview former Silverwolf Comics artist Dane McCart. He was very nice, and had a lot of insight into the history of the company and what it was like to work for Kris Silver way back around 1986 or so.

He also had something I was looking for desperately: Original Silverwolf Art. Two published covers (Eradicators #3 and #4) and one unpublished cover. It was a very good day.

So while showing me these covers and telling me about working with Tim Vigil on the cover for The Eradicators #3, he mentions another piece they did together and pulls out one more, oversized piece…’Vampire’.

Founded by Kris Silver in the mid 1980’s and based in Sacramento California, Silverwolf was published out of a comic book shop (Alexander’s Comics) and rode the B&W collecting boom of the 1980’s.
