I have plans to do a whole series of posts about the artists I’ve found using Pandora, but I did manage to discover a new artist (new to me) by a different method. The band is called ‘Dowsing‘, and they are based out of Chicago (like Katie Todd) and their music is indie, emo, and pop. And apparently they are pretty good at playing Monopoly. Continue reading »
I found Katie using Pandora, and her first album, ‘Changing Faces’, just hit it out of the park. So much indie music is slow, melancholic and plodding. Not to say they suck, but it does seem too many ‘indie’ albums are ‘indie’ because they are just too pedestrian and not really ‘poppy’ enough to make it on the radio, for instance.
The offerings on Katie’s first album avoid such a label as ‘pedestrian’ by being upbeat and having great hooks and choruses. This album showcases Katie’s use of the piano for more than just slow songs, and her pop/rock compositions have been used in movies, television, and opening themes of all stripes. Continue reading »
