Nevermore01CovCarvalhoLast time I went on a bit about not quite getting what I had bargained for when buying original art. Sure, I forgot to ask questions, ignored a few obvious signs, but in the end it’s not like I was buying a Picasso or something.

This time though, I want to share on of those few times I got MORE than I bargained for…and that’s a good thing.

The piece I’m going on about was one of the covers for Dean Koontz’s Nevermore #1, by Leno Carvalho.

Here’s a nice scan of the original, you can click on the image for a larger version:

I was with Silver in the beginning…”

-Neill Brengettsey

StechMock2Artist Neill Brengettsey, aka paime (Pay Me the artist) was a busy guy about the time Silverwolf Comics got started. Although he was never published by Silverwolf Comics, he worked on several titles including Stech, Guillotine, and The Deadly Dungeoneer. And thanks to the generosity of Mr. Brengettsey, Moby’s! has the original pages to prove it.

Neill’s unpublished Silverwolf art…

Still, there is enough here to know that Neill was ready for his shot, it is a real shame he was not published at the time. His work still stands up after all this time, and the quality in evidence is certainly better than what later became the average for Silverwolf art.

Infinites Issue 4 cover BSometimes you just have to ask the right questions, right? This post is Moby’s way of sharing one of his learning experiences. Not a bad one really, but it offers a thing or two that can be learned.

A while back, Moby won an auction for some cover art, the cover to Heroic Publishing’s ‘The Infinites‘ #4. Yay.

I got it for a steal, probably not even enough to cover shipping. So being a collector and all around nice guy, Moby contacted the seller to see if there was anything else available.

Why yes…only the original artwork for the entire issue, and the next. Yay. Continue reading »

ALotofArtA quick post today, to share with you a bit of ‘B-Side’ artwork by former Silverwolf artist Neill Brengettsey.

I am working on a series of follow up posts to the excellent interview with Neill that was posted some time ago. That interview came with a nice stack of unpublished art, page after page that was meant for Silverwolf but was ultimately never used. You can read why in the interview.

On the back side of many of the pages Neill sent are doodles, practice or concept drawings, etc. I just wanted to share a couple of them with you, especially since I saw this first ‘B-Side’ I want to share. Continue reading »

Silverwolf EdgeAlong with the recent interview and his tryout pages Greater Mercury Comics Edge Artist Brian Riedel was kind enough to also send scans of the unpublished covers to issues 9, 12, and 13; as well as scans of the first ten pages of art that was completed for issue 13! Again, I cannot thank Brian enough for his willingness to share his unpublished art with us fans, giving us all a chance to see ‘what might have been’. Continue reading »
