Scattered about the galaxy were the time-space Gates of a vanished but not forgotten alien race. In their time, long before the rise of the native civilizations, they had terrorized a hundred worlds—not from villainy but from folly, from tampering with the strands that held a universe together.

Now the task was to uproot these Gates…”

While Twittering around yesterday I saw a tweet from CJ Cherryh, something that happens once a day if we’re lucky. Here it is:

A film adaptation of one of Cherryh’s works? That would be awesome. One thing I have noticed is that when Hollywood moves, it can be like a surge. Whenever a topic or author gets hot, we always seem to get movies in pairs. Armageddon and Deep Impact; Dante’s Peak and that other Volcano movie; A Bug’s Life and Antz….the list goes on. Point is, if one Cherryh property gets the greenlight…does that mean other’s could get the go ahead? Continue reading »

outland_poster_usHad to write something about an excellent post by Scott Dutton over at catspawdynamics. Mr. Dutton is a former artist for Greater Mercury Comics (Eradicators #3  &  #4), and has also wrote a John Carter of Mars novel, ‘Return to Barsoom‘, which is available free on his site

In his latest post (and first tweet!) Scott shares with us material from the press kit for the 1981 sci-fi film classic Outland starring Sean Connery, and his thoughts as well. It is a very, very long post and totally engrossing…there is a lot of great info and background on the motion picture and it’s production. Continue reading »

Janeane GarofaloOf course you’ve seen this gal. Janeane tries hard, real hard, and that makes her one one those love her or hate her types. She is an actress, a comedian, and an activist. Janeane was born in Newton, New Jersey and is of Italian and Irish descent, and did I mention she’s an activist?

After winning a comedy talent search contest, then working her butt off for years, Garofalo came into the limelight along with a cast of friends and colleagues that included Ben Stiller, Andy Dick, David Cross, and Bob Odenkirk. Basically the cast of The Ben Stiller Show. She then went on to even bigger things, like being an SNL cast member for a season. Continue reading »

Well, that was quick. I just read about the project, and headed over to Kickstarter to check it out…and it is already funded! On day one, the $2 Million goal has been reached and the project is already funded. Incredible. The $2 Million is a record in it’s own right, and to get funded so quickly is simply breathtaking. Fans of the TV cult favorite show can now celebrate, The Veronica Mars Movie is a go.

Heck, at this pace, could we be looking at a movie AND a sequel? Continue reading »

ReplayPostHave you ever read a book and wished they would make it into a movie? Of course; we’ve all had that moment, and I can think of a lot of books I’d like to see personally.

Most of the books I’d love to see made into movies are sci-fi and will likely never see the light of day. Hollywood simply has no stomach for taking risks when their whole business model is predicated on blockbusters that need to open to tens of millions of dollars and make their budget back in a few weeks. You see it today with all the remakes and reboots.

Replay, however, has had a screenplay floating around for a couple decades and has even had Ben Affleck attached at one point, so it seems like a good candidate to get made someday. The players on HSX seem to agree, they are holding this long by a 3:1 margin. Continue reading »
