swlogoSilverwolf Comics was a comic book publishing company that got started at the proverbial right time and place. Founded by Kris Silver in the mid 1980’s and based in Sacramento California, Silverwolf was published out of a comic book shop (Alexander’s Comics) and rode the B&W collecting boom of the 1980’s. A few of the artists who got their start with Silverwolf include Brandon McKinney, Ron Lim, and Tim Vigil. Continue reading »

DRACULA

Andy Fish is an accomplished and respected artist who lives and works in the northeast United States . He has a number of blogs and has won many awards. He’s big, like Ron Burgandy big.  And, judging from the items and art that I have seen for sale, he really seems to enjoy old cinema villains and creatures like Frankenstein and Dracula and such.

He’s also a big fan of the 60’s Batman TV show and it’s star Adam West. He had one of the first web-comics around, a little strip named ‘Adam Bomb‘, which I also have a few pieces from.

His credits include at least 16 Graphic novels and a number of screenplays. He’s big. Continue reading »

anneclr300I wrote before about what a great find Penny-Farthing Press was. Top shelf quality, and on sale which was nice. Moby does not buy too many comics nowadays, mostly art, and that is how I found Anne Steelyard and the Garden of Emptiness.

Anne Steelyard is sort of a female Indiana Jones type, but is based loosely on a real person. It has everything you could want in a story, and I would be shocked if a movie does not get made from this source material someday. Seriously, it has action, adventure, drama,  adventure, romance,…and more adventure.

The story was penned by Barbara Hambly and has won many awards and been widely reviewed, so I am not going to bother doing anything in depth here. Barbara did a great interview with comicbookresources, and that should do if you need more on the story itself. Mostly just want write about the art, the artist, and give readers a good idea of why they should give Anne Steelyard a chance. pfpress.comAnne Steelyard - Act 1Just a quick note about a great sale from a great company.

Right now you can get single issues of most titles directly from Penny Farthing Press starting at $0.69, and graphic novels at under $4 or $5, just an incredible deal. Moby has become a fan of PFPress by way of collecting original art from one of their series, Anne Steelyard.

Captain Gravity - Power of the Vril - Issue 4

Being something of a original comic art collector I was of course interested when I saw that there was a preview issue of Anne Steelyard with tryout page samples out there. However, the only copy I could find at the usual online stores was on Ebay for $15! Well, a quick search later and I found that PFPress had them in their own company store, and they were marked down, from a buck a piece to $0.25! What a deal, eh? But then as I kept browsing, I saw they had plenty more great books, and it was all on sale. Continue reading »
