Rock

Okay, what’s wrong with this picture?

So, it seems that Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has built a reputation as ‘Franchise Viagra‘ for his ability to come on board flagging film franchises and breathe new life into them. And he has stated that he would like in on Star Wars.

Cinema Blend: Are there other franchises that you look at and think, “I want to give that a shock to the system?”

Dwayne Johnson: Oh easily. Star Wars.

Scattered about the galaxy were the time-space Gates of a vanished but not forgotten alien race. In their time, long before the rise of the native civilizations, they had terrorized a hundred worlds—not from villainy but from folly, from tampering with the strands that held a universe together.

Now the task was to uproot these Gates…”

While Twittering around yesterday I saw a tweet from CJ Cherryh, something that happens once a day if we’re lucky. Here it is:

A film adaptation of one of Cherryh’s works? That would be awesome. One thing I have noticed is that when Hollywood moves, it can be like a surge. Whenever a topic or author gets hot, we always seem to get movies in pairs. Armageddon and Deep Impact; Dante’s Peak and that other Volcano movie; A Bug’s Life and Antz….the list goes on. Point is, if one Cherryh property gets the greenlight…does that mean other’s could get the go ahead? Continue reading »

where-im-headed-lene-marlinI am willing to bet that most Americans are not familiar with the music of Lene Marlin. I definitely had no clue who she was when Pandora added her to one of the stations it was building for me, based on my musical tastes and all. The first song of her’s I heard was Where I’m Headed, and it was very much a Pop song, but with great breathy vocals…a bit like Leigh Nash of Sixpence None the Richer or perhaps Allison Krauss. And of course I knew right away that I had found an artist that would be put into my regular rotation on my mp3 player. I love it when that happens; it’s just so hard to find good music nowadays. Protector1Just a little reminder that the newest book in the Foreigner Series by CJ Cherryh, Protector, comes out today. Protector is the 2nd book of the 5th ‘Sequence’ (5th trilogy), making it the 14th book in the series.

The next book in the series, Peacemaker, appears to be completed, although in a ‘pre-submission edit’ state, according to CJ Cherryh’s blog, Wave Without a Shore.

All the books in the Foreigner Series are available on audio at Audible as well, in case your interested.

A while back CJ shared a link to the blog of Todd Lockwood, the cover artists for several books in the series. On his blog he allows us to take a look behind the scenes at how the covers for the books come into being. Continue reading »

outland_poster_usHad to write something about an excellent post by Scott Dutton over at catspawdynamics. Mr. Dutton is a former artist for Greater Mercury Comics (Eradicators #3  &  #4), and has also wrote a John Carter of Mars novel, ‘Return to Barsoom‘, which is available free on his site

In his latest post (and first tweet!) Scott shares with us material from the press kit for the 1981 sci-fi film classic Outland starring Sean Connery, and his thoughts as well. It is a very, very long post and totally engrossing…there is a lot of great info and background on the motion picture and it’s production. Continue reading »
