New This week we have a commission from Ebay virtual corner artist Kurt Herston (ebay name ‘kurthetston‘). Moby decided to try getting something he has wanted for a while…Grips on the toilet. You see Grips was the flagship character for indie Comics publisher Silverwolf Comics (which later became Greater Mercury Comics) and was the launching pad for artists like Tim Vigil and Ron Lim.
The neat thing about the character was his alter-ego was a comic book artist who drew a book called ‘The Fat Ninja’, which you can see he is reading there on the toilet. The Fat Ninja’ was another title available through Silverwolf, an actual book, written and published by founder Kristoffer Silver.
Grips was not your average superhero comic. It was violent for one thing, and you got things from the book that you just did not see in mainstream comics…I guess that’s why I asked for this commission. Plus, let’s face it, it is funny as all get-out. Great job Kurt.
Also, I was afraid if I asked Mr. Vigil (notice I said Mister there) to draw this I was afraid he might come find me and do mean things to my person. Well, if I am being honest, I have no idea whatsoever how Mr. Vigil would feel about this, perhaps he has one heck of a sense of humor and would like to send me his own take on the subject (hint hint).
I am sure there is more on Silverwolf and Grips to come in the future. Moby has some other originals by several of the artists who worked for Silverwolf to share, but sadly almost none of it comes from Silverwolf titles themselves…mostly it is artwork from projects and commissions from after they had left and gone on to other projects. But Moby still has hope he can locate some actual, original SW/GMC art.
Kurt is available for commissions on ebay. Moby recommended.
That’s gotta be the funniest piece of art I’ve seen in a long time…
I hope he’s reeeeeeeeeaaal careful when he wipes.

Vigil would not be enthused (to put it mildly). To say he has no love for the character he started with would be an understatement. When he gets sketch requests to draw Grips at cons he groans.
That’s interesting. I have heard from a few fans that he should buy the rights to Grips and do an anniversary issue or something…guess we can count that out. I think his fanbase would love it though.
Still, he still takes Grips requests. Check out this new commission, courtesy of Bill C.
