A quick post today, to share with you a bit of ‘B-Side’ artwork by former Silverwolf artist Neill Brengettsey.
I am working on a series of follow up posts to the excellent interview with Neill that was posted some time ago. That interview came with a nice stack of unpublished art, page after page that was meant for Silverwolf but was ultimately never used. You can read why in the interview.
On the back side of many of the pages Neill sent are doodles, practice or concept drawings, etc. I just wanted to share a couple of them with you, especially since I saw this first ‘B-Side’ I want to share.
Note that I had to change the color and contrast to get the pencils to show up, the actual pages are quite white.
This one was a delight. I was putting some of the Guillotine pages into order, and remembered to look at the backs of the pages. And there it was…just a lone, cartoonish page. I really like the alien character with his big expressive eyes and Marvin the Martian headware. Wish I knew more about this one, I love it.
I think it is important to remember that all this is from the early years, 1985 or ’86. The more I look at Neill’s work, the more I can hardly believe he was not published by Silverwolf.
The next piece is Wolverine, again colored to increase contrast and show the un-inked pencils:
And last, Space Ghost:
There’s a ton more as well. Perhaps once all the Silverwolf related posts are done, I will do one last post of these ‘B-Sides’.
You can see more of Neill’s older work on his own site, http://artoftheblackhand.blogspot.com/. More to come…
