Well, Moby got behind three more kickstarts but first I guess I should mention that it is not looking good for HM4 at this point. I’m gonna keep my thoughts to myself, but Moby backed HM4 solidly, put up the links and adverts…so it’s sad to see the campaign struggling to be sure.
But on the plus side, three other kickstarts have gone through. One is for a superhero novel and the other two involve animated series trying to get going.
ARENA MODE – a sci-fi/superhero novel by Blake Northcott:
It’s ‘Ready Player One’ meets ‘The Hunger Games’ from the sounds of it. A good concept from the sound of it, a novel with elements of graphic novel mixed in. Lots of comic artist delivering a couple handfuls of illustrations will help readers to visualize and such.
In the near future the government announces that superhumans are real. But unlike the iconic heroes of comic book fiction, they never put on capes and venture out to save the world; most keep to themselves in an attempt to blend in with a society that fears their abilities, and considers their very existence a terrorist threat.
One day, billionaire Cameron Frost makes a shocking announcement: the latest in his series of increasingly-violent sporting events will be a no-holds-barred fighting tournament. It will take place in a secured urban combat zone – known as The Arena – where 13 volunteers battle for the largest cash prize ever awarded.
The catch? To participate, you have to be a superhuman.”
The funding target on this one was hit very early, so now the project is going for the stretch goals. More art, perhaps a RPG game. And, we have hope of more videos of Blake acting like a dork.Yay!
The Syndicate (Animated Series)
It’s got Marisa Tomei attached, ’nuff said.
“Follow the actions of two brothers and their friend as they attempt to dismantle a criminal organization known as The Syndicate.”
The project Lead was nice enough to let me share one of the rewards, a character concept art piece. I received Sister Powell, and there she is on the left.
This sounds like a promising series, but who knows.
Heromakers
“The dysfunctional Murray family starts a business that offers human clients the opportunity to experience the life of a superhero.”
The idea is to give people back power in their own lives by making them a superhero for a day. Or, at least APPEAR to be a superhero. Or something. It’s funded, so there.
I’m really enjoying getting involved with these few projects and looking forward to seeing where they go to. Too bad about HM4 though, but I’m gonna bite my tongue on that one for now.
