Of course you’ve seen this guy. You might not realize it just yet, but trust Moby on this. Start the popcorn.
Mark was born in Pasadena ( pah-sah-dah-nah) and first gained fame and notice in a late-night comedy sketch series similar to Saturday Night Live called “Fridays”, an attempt by ABC to emulate SNL which was suffering from low ratings at the time. He was noticeable for a few characters, including “The Crazy Pharmacist”, which led to secondary parts in films like ‘The Incredible Shrinking Woman’ (1981) and weekly TV roles in The Nutt House (1989) and Good and Evil (1991). If your real resourceful you can effort his work in “The Jerk, Too” and “Splash, Too”, a couple of TV movie versions of feature films noticeable for their lack of Ted Danson (that guy can just not catch a break!).
Jekyll & Hyde: Together Again (1982)
Before Mark was feeling up a 3D centerfold, he put in a classic performance in a movie that is best described as turning a beloved classic into a drug-fueled clinic in comic libido. If you like Mel Brooks, Airplane!, and drugs then you have been missing out. Mark plays Dr. Daniel Jekyll, a world class surgeon who has dedicated his life to research, trying to unlock human’s animal nature, thereby allowing people the ability to heal themselves of their suffering. But his experiments go awry when he snorts some of the powder he has been experimenting with, unleashing a drug-fueled sex maniac with no boundaries to speak of and hilarious results.
The comedy that examines modern living through chemistry
This alter-ego, aptly calling himself Mr. Hyde, goes on epic adventures of sexual debauchery that the straight laced Jekyll can only dream about, but is too inhibited to engage in. He romps through the city nightlife leaving a trail of mayhem and chicken sushi, along with bills for sex goats and Nazi uniforms. Quite epic.
If you liked ‘Airplane!’ and already have discovered Val Kilmer’s ‘Top Secret’ and want more…then queue up this gem. Trust me, and get the kids out of the room before viewing.
Jekyll and Hyde: Together Again is available on DVD
Robin Hood: Men In Tights (1993)
Shirley you have seen “Robin Hood: Men In Tights”?
Mark played the part of the blind squire ‘Blinkin’. No denying it was a great role for Mark and earned him his well deserved 15 minutes of everlasting pop-culture references.
In this sequel to ‘The Princess Bride’, Wesley of Loxley returns home to England and takes over the role of Robin Hood to avenge his family honor and such.
In his usual style, Mel Brooks delivers a not so classy take on a classic tale. With his signature humor and a noteworthy cast, this is a film worthy of it’s place in comedy lore.
Sorry this review sucks, but Captain Obvious was unavailable. Yeah, it’s that funny.
