A treat from Mega-Silverwolf fan Bill C., a decent scan of may have been the cover art intended for Grips Vol.1 #7. Bill sent this one a while ago, and since I was going to post a couple new Grips commissions, I thought I should get around to posting this lost gem.
The first four issues of Grips were published by Silverwolf, and issues 5 & 6 were later published by Greater Mercury in GMC Action #5-#8.
At the top left there is the advert for the issue, which gives us an inkling of where the story was going.
As usual you can click on the image below for a larger version:
Via Facebook, Tim stated this piece was originally a portfolio piece. Indeed, this image is one of the plates included in Grips Portfolio #3.
Still, it is clearly used in the advert for issue #7.
Be sure to check out Bill C.’s collection posted at Comic Art Fans, including a brand new commission from Mr. Vigil.
Here’s a peek:
Thanks again Bill.

WOw, Vigil’s work is so polished and tight now, dramatic change. Love to see him relaunch Grips.
The above piece WAS a plate from Grips Portfolio #3 (the one plate from that portfolio I do not own. Long story…) which is the hardest Grips portfolio to find. Incredibly rare. Grips vol. 1 #5 was published as Greater Mercury Comics Action #5 as you correctly stated but #6 was published in serial format as 6-7 page chapters in issues #6-8 of GMC Action. Also Nightmaster #2 and Edge #2 (by Gary Shipman) were published in this same format through GMC Action #s 6-9.
There was no art done for Grips #7 of any kind. No cover and no pages..
The ad clearly shows this piece while advertising issue #7. It was done for the portfolio but it appears Kris has other uses for it as well.
